Beavers

At Beavers, our young people try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is continuing their beginning of their big adventure. Our Beavers meet on a Monday evening at 18:00 – 19:15

Beavers are young people aged 6 to 8 who:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Make friends
  • Are curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, on their own doorstops and beyond

What do Beavers get up to?

Beaver Scouts, for children aged 6-8, embark on exciting adventures that spark creativity, curiosity, and confidence. From building dens and exploring nature to learning basic life skills and earning badges, Beavers enjoy a mix of outdoor activities, teamwork challenges, and hands-on projects. They also take part in community events, discover the importance of helping others, and make lifelong friendships—all while having loads of fun!

Who leads Beavers?

Beaver Scouts are guided by a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who create a safe, fun, and supportive environment for children aged 6-8. These leaders, often parents or community members, are trained to deliver engaging activities that inspire teamwork, creativity, and confidence. Whether planning outdoor adventures, organising craft sessions, or helping Beavers earn badges, they play a key role in bringing Scouting’s “Skills for Life” ethos to life. With flexible roles and full support, Beaver leadership is a rewarding way to make a difference in young lives while being part of a dynamic community.

How to join

1st Merton Park is an extremely popular group, this means that lots of young people want to join and you might have to wait for a space to become available before you can start your scouting journey. If you have any questions about accessibility, it’s best to contact us in addition to your application. By being upfront about additional needs from the start, parents/carers can work in partnership with local leaders to make sure their young person has the best experience possible.

Scouting provides a second family to lots of young people. It’s a safe place where they can aspire and grow.'
